How to make a mini zine: 7-Step guide

A bunch of cool mini zines in our library

If you’ve wanted to try zine making but never knew where to start, follow this easy 7-Step guide to making your own mini zine.

Mini zines are a great way to start making zines as they are quick and easy to make, and don’t require as much time and ideas as a full-sized zine. They are also cheaper to print than full sized zines, as you just need to copy one sheet of paper.

Step 1:

Grab yourself a sheet of A4 or A3 paper

Step 2:

Fold the paper in half lengthwise.

Step 3:

Now fold the paper in half the other way.

Step 4:

On the longest side, fold the outside edges to meet the middle line.

You’re almost done…

Step 5:

Fold the paper down the middle and cut the paper halfway through both sides, using the fold lines as a guide…

…so it looks like this

Step 6:

Fold the paper in half lengthwise and push the edges together.

Step 7:

Good job! You’re done with the layout. Now you can start designing your zine, then make some copies.

Use the above guide to plan your content on each of the 6 pages (plus back and front covers) keeping in mind some pages will be upside down. Then run it through a photocopier, or leave it as a one-off original.

You can also add a poster or bonus content on the opposite side, if you wish.
